Increased spend on SEO, investments in search engine optimization were on the rise before the recession but now marketers looking for clicks at a cost much lower than paid search are joining those who return to seo after mastering paid search programs. For example banks find that new account applications increase with a higher seo investment. So it now buys just niche keywords and spends former paid search budget on SEO.

More than half of companies (54%) increased spending on SEO in 2012, while only 10% to spent less. OnĀ average companies spent 43% more on seo then in 2011.
